With years of experience in the food and hospitality industry, we wanted to really put Yorkshire on the map as one of the country’s finest producers of top quality food and ingredients. In 2020 we achieved a huge milestone winning the live wire prestige business award of Cafe of the Year in West Yorkshire.
At sons of the North we showcase the best of British food and drink at our cafe in the North Light Gallery Mill, Armitage Bridge.
Luke Tankard & Ben Curtis, Yorkshire born & bred with James Erwin from the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland have worked in the Hospitality Industry all their lives ranging from traditional pubs, Michelin Star restaurants and 5 Star Hotels. Fate brought these Northern boys together to have the vision to create The Sons of the North.

Owner and Front of House
Luke is a true Yorkshire lad, larger than life and with a real passion for food & drink. He has worked in various roles within Hotels, Restaurants & Vineyards all over Britain and Ireland and brings a great knowledge where ever he goes.
A great traveller who soaks up knowledge from all over the world with a great interest in wine and beer, and has visited Vineyards and Breweries in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, USA, & France just to name a few, all with the aim to gain more insight and provide our customers with the best possible service and produce.
Ben, a born and bred Yorkshire man with a drive and desire to bring the best of British (but mainly Yorkshire) to your tables. He spent several years working in and around the London 5 star circuit with a short stint in the United Arab Emirates where he spent time behind the scenes at the seven star Burj al Arab as well as aiding in number of hotel openings and launches in the UAE.
Having travelled extensively both personally and professionally he immerses himself into the culture and cuisines of his surroundings, combined with his extensive experience in the food and beverage industry he looks to support Luke and James in delivering the best in service and produce.
James is from the World Famous North Coast of Ireland, trained by George & Jane McAlpin at the Ramore Restaurants in Portrush. Born into the industry he has an unmatchable passion for food and puts all his passion and love into not only preparing the best food but also sourcing quality produce to provide our customers.
